Based -                 Amsterdam, Holland

Nickname -            El Niňo

Hobbies -               Poker, Internet

Achievements -      Euro Tour wins: Czech Open 06, German Open 05 and Salzberg Open 02. Quarter-Finalist 2005 World Pool Championship, Mosconi Cup winner 2002. Currently ranked No.4 in Europe.

‘El Niňo’ has now become one of the tournament mainstays of the European pool scene, delivering good on the promise of his earlier career. As a 22 year-old he played his way onto the Mosconi Cup team and was in the side that recorded a superb victory over Team USA at the York Hall. The following year he travelled to Las Vegas to be part of the team that snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on that fateful final Sunday.

However, van den Berg will be sure to get plenty more Mosconi Cup opportunities if he continues in his current vein of form. A win at the German Open last May took him out of a bit of slump and at the World Pool Championship in Kaohsiung he looked good until Rodney Morris stopped him in a quarter-final thriller.

Since then, van den Berg won the Czech Open in January of this year, beating England’s Darren Appleton for the title. That was Nick’s third EuroTour title. Van den Berg missed the Masters last time but the two previous years saw him go out at the quarter-final stage. With a big crowd behind him, he will be looking to substantially improve on that this time round.
